EP Watch: Breezy – Tragic Mulatto

The moment you read or hear the title of this record is the same moment you come to realise that the artist behind it means to leave her mark. Unyielding and yet playful, expressive with a reserve of ‘more to come’ and the duality that makes this record most powerful is the link between the present and the predecessor. The Tragic Mulatto EP offers an indelible insight into Breezy, who helms her debut EP with majesty and touches of madness.   The first voice you truly bear witness to on this record is Nina Simone. She is waxing on the definition of freedom in her low lyrical tones while Breezy’s mood-setting melodies hum a unison of identification. The present and predecessor. Enter ‘Low Power Mode’, an anthemic swell of a song, the refrain of which is a highlight of the entire EP. Backed by stark keys and a simple but...

Breezy – “Get Ready” | Domicilium

Breezy came through to Domicilium in October, and she gave us one hell of a set. “Get Ready” is a Motown influenced jam and a personal call to action off of her “Tragic Mulatto EP“. The DubTalk ft. Breezy

Season 3 is here, and for the first time, The DubTalk is on video. We invited Breezy to the K12 studio to talk about her new “Tragic Mulatto” EP. The session is a wealth of knowledge and infectious improvised tunes. From minute one, Breezy was candid and honest with Lex and Eli. Off of the back of her open demeanor, we quickly dove into serious conversation about her road to “Tragic Mulatto”. Returning to American culture was rough for Breezy after a year in Berlin studying at dBs Music Berlin. She spent some dramatic time in L.A., which ended in her decision to return back to her home on the east coast. It was there that “Tragic Mulatto” grew into the moving piece of music that it is. The album is informed by “sources”, as Breezy calls them in the interview. These short skit-like interludes come between each track and...
