The DubTalk ft. Maura Souloud

Maura Souloud‘s voice is an ethereal trip into a dimension where all sounds make you smile and sigh. Her stylings are smooth. Her lyricism is poignant, and her vibe is always warm and welcoming. Because Maura is a member of the Peanut Butter Beats crew, we’ve had the pleasure of being privy to her artistry many times, and we figured y’all might love it as much as we do.  When we invited her into the K12, Maura did not disappoint. Throughout the sound check, she was singing catchy lines and busting out the fattest sounds from her SP-404 Sampler. Once the conversation started to roll, Maura was not shy about telling shit like it is. We dove into her origins in the Deutsch Rap scene, and she gave us her honest opinions about the way her femininity affected her ability to do what she wanted to do, which was rap....

Traces: Zaunkoenig

“We are all given a single line on this planet to squiggle down our impressions of what we see life as. I try to trace this picture through this series of short interviews to capture the essence of our fleeting moments in words and imagery from a selection of inspirational beings. Sometimes quirky, raw and heartfelt. All that is poured out remains on the page.” – The Ponch

The DubTalk ft. Pourtr8s

Pourtr8s had some BAAARS to drop when he came into the K12. This Irish MC is the reason that Lexodus started to freestyle, and he came into the place fiery and ready to do just that. Pourtr8s prides himself on his ability to speak straight from the heart, and he uses hip hop to spread his message, which is one of acceptance and understanding. Growing up, he felt a deep connection with the ability of rappers to tap into the struggle of inner city ghettos, so he started freestyling at a young age to become a part of the culture. Amidst the savage freestyling, we got seriously in depth on the topic of hip hop and the kind of musical culture that we want to foster and cultivate in our lives. From swag rap to conscious rap, underground to main stream, we discussed the impact an MC can have and...

The DubTalk ft. Babiche Papaya

The penultimate episode of the final season features yet another multi-talented and socially active being, and she goes by the name of Babiche Papaya. At her request, we opened up the episode with a lengthy freestyle cypher session. Right away, we noticed how unique and witty her freestyle swagger is. She was whipping out lines that were totally off the wall and unexpected, which had us doubled over with laughter. Once we’d rapped ourselves into a frenzy, we finally introduced ourselves to each other and got to talking about serious shit. We wanted to understand how she perceived the Berlin hip hop scene as a woman and an immigrant from Rwanda. Although she speaks fluent German and has such an incredible flow, she was often discouraged by male MC’s treating her as an outsider and questioning her skill even when it was on clear display before them. Throughout the episode,...
